Get Set for School™ Pre-K Workshop

2008 AEP Outstanding Achievement Award

The award-winning Get Set for School™ Pre-K program uses lively music and playful activities to help young children build a solid foundation for school success.

This upbeat workshop introduces a readiness curriculum full of developmentally appropriate activities that teach children about letters, body awareness, numbers, sequencing, and sharing in a fun, engaging, and informal manner.

The Get Set for School™ Pre-K workshop is an introductory level class.

Get Set for School™ Pre-K Workshop Objectives

At the end of the HWT Pre–K Workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Plan new activities to teach body awareness and other school readiness skills
  • Understand how to use music to prepare children for school
  • Identify developmental stages in writing readiness
  • Understand how to use multisensory, hands-on manipulatives to prepare children for handwriting
  • Teach a correct and effective grip and other fine motor skills
  • Teach counting, drawing, shape recognition, and letter/number formations to children at the Pre-K level

3:00 p.m. Body Awareness: Song to Teach Body Parts
3:15 p.m. Introducing HWT Wood Pieces in Preschool: Size, Shape and Position Concepts, Wood Piece Activities for an Entire Class, Movement and Imitation with Big Lines, Using Capital Letter Cards for Wood Pieces
3:45 p.m. Body Awareness Continued: More songs to teach Body Parts, Mat Man™ Activity, Beginning Drawing Skills
4:00 p.m. Break: Snack and beverage served.
4:15 p.m. Letter Play and Crayon/Pencil Skills: Fine Motor Play using Multisensory Activities (Roll-A-Dough Letters™, Stamp and See Screen™), Developmental Stages in Handwriting Readiness, Educating Others, Handedness, Tool Use in Preschool, When and How to Teach Grip, Coloring Skills
